Barbed wire

I thought I would try to respond to the barbd wire thing in MLK.
Various images have always arisen with the barbed wire. The first one
is the wire wall at Berlin (before it was fully cemented and the parts
that weren't). I do remember the picture (I saw it in a museum.) Of a
guy who was electrocuted. The other images that come up is the various
jails in South Africa, Latin America, Central America. The ones I have
either visited (after they have been discovered and turned into
museums/memorials.) were usually surrounded by barbed wire when they
were used as death or detention camps. The other image that I remember
was a picture taken of Primo Levi when he was a prisoner. This shows
him looking at the camera with his hand on a barbed wire fence.
Ultimately the unknowability (real word- I just invented it:) of the
image gives it its force.

On a side note, I was talking to a few friends the other day. Am I the
only one who can listen to Rattle and Hum and like all the album. I am
not saying it is my favorite, but everybody else I have ever talked to
(even on Wire) seems to hate it with a passion.
