Sorry wirelings been out of the loop the last week and am responding to
several posts over wire. As for the drugs: to say that members of U2 have
experimented with drugs is one thing but to allege all sorts of addictions to
hard drugs namely coke and heroin is absolutely ridiculous. Bono is a nutty
fun loving guy his antics are a part of his personality not the result of
addictions. Alcoholic? I don't really think so, drinks too much ..... probably
but that is hardly unusual. No Bono is not a saint! But he is an incredible
musician, lyricist and, I believe a phenomenal person. To take song lyrics and
say Bono is a drug addict is stupid. The person that refereed to the " bad
taste.." That Bono sings about is in all likelihood a reference too oral sex
not drugs.( see U2 At the end of the World) I think also that many people take
U2's lyrics way to seriously, U2 is one of the most sarcastic bands around (
Actung Baby to present) Bono's alter ego's demonstrate that he is stepping out
of character. As for heroin I have heard Bono discuss this many times. During
the late 80's many close friends of the group were doing the drug but U2 was
very wary of it and knew how dangerous it was. (Wire) someone took quotes from
many songs too say that Bono was on drugs. This is dumb to begin with but many
of the quotes in general aren't even drug suggestive."If i could you know i
would", "bitter the taste in my mouth..." these are not references too drug
use, furthermore Bono does not have too experience everyhting he sings about.
When i read the homosexuality quote I could only laugh.... when are people
going to learn that affection between men = homosexuality. Just because Bono
hugs the Edge does not make him gay it only makes him expressive. The members
of U2 are close friends not lovers so give the gay thing a rest it only
insults the inteligence of us all. Also these allegations of addiction and
homosexualiy would have surfaced many years ago if true. ( yes i know adam got
in trouble for small possesion charges) By this i mean it would have
completely come out under the scrutiny that U2 was under. Sorry this posting
is jumbled it was writen quickly and not in reference to any one person. And
sorry to extend this argument.
