comparing U2 to ...........the Beatles?????

um..... ok DARLIN' here's my thing, I KNOW I AM GOING TO BE FLAMED BIG
TIME FOR THIS ONE, BUHT...someone tried to compare U2's music with the
Beatles, saying
that the Beatles were constantly on drugs and they wrote some of the
"greatest" music in history, and that it is entirely possible for U2
to be on drugs..... I MUST protest.
First of all, from what I've heard, from friends and from the
music, the majority of the Beatles' music is about love and
relationships, now IMO, their music is OK, but nowhere near as good as
U2's, lyrically or otherwise. So comparing the Beatles to U2 is
ridiculous. U2's music is FAR, FAR deeper than the Beatles could ever
hope to be, IMHO. Lyrically, IMHO, Lennon and McCarthy have NOTHING on
Bono. If you ask me, U2's music is THE greatest in history, PERIOD. As
for the drug thing, Bono himself said it, he doesn't need drugs, he's
actually kind of afraid of them. (now some people may say, 'yeah, he's
afraid of them cuz he tried them and knows what they do', ok, if thats
true, and thats a BIG IF.... why the bloody hell would Bono try to get
his friends of drugs, heroin or otherwise, that just doesnt make
sense.) and although this is a bit abstract to what Bono meant, if you
listen to the Springhill Disaster Concert in Chicago (1987-88) Bono
clearly states, "I'm not in the Beatles, this is U2." Now, Bono may be
giving credit to the Beatles (and I will too, because although i dont
like their music as much, I will say they had a big impact)
I was watching the ZooTV, live at Sydney last night, there is NO
WAY Bono was on drugs!!!!!!! I know I said this before, but I'm gonna
say it again, why the bloody hell would Bono sit there and in his
songs tell his friends to get off heroin, and then go and try/do a
drug that is JUST as dangerous. I'm sorry, but I don't buy it for a
second. I think that doctor friend of Nico's is full of crap. (See
Nico, I'm not flaming or blaming you, ;) )
I don't think Bono would be that much of a hypocrite. I realize no one
is perfect, but I don't think the majority of the population, LET
ALONE BONO, would do something that friggin stupid. So before you go
comparing the Beatles and their drug use and their
music to Bono and the Boys, remember who you're talking about. (U2
RULES!) Thats almost as ridiculous as comparing the Doors with U2
would be, I mean COME ON!!!!!

and as for the guy who said Bono looked stoned at the cologne concert
in Europe, with the eyes, um, lack of sleep and alcohol will do that
to a person, buddy.
