>From my experience based on sales and chart positions,
I would estimate that at #21, the Limited Edition sold
about 50-60,000 copies and the "Best Of" (without
the b-side disk) sold about 35,000 copies. Combined,
this would be enough for the "Best Of" to probably
remain in the U.S. top 10. Mind you, this is just
an estimate as I have not seen actual sales figures
for this week.
The Limited Edition will continue to drop rapidly
in the coming weeks as the stores sell out of their copies.
The "Best Of" without the b-sides debuted at #57 last week
with 29,000 copies sold. Its jump to #45 corresponds
with the drop in the Limited Edition.
In countries like Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, where
the two versions are counted as one, the "Best Of" has
held strong at the top of the charts. But in the U.K., Canada
and the U.S., the Limited Edition is charting separately
and therefore rapidly falling as they sell out. However,
the "Best Of" without the b-side disk is performing well.
As you pointed out, it moved up 12 spots on the U.S. charts.
In the U.K. it held steady in the top 10 (even though the
Limited Edition fell out of the top 10) and it debuted at #5 in
Canada (right behind the Limited Edition). So watch for
the Limited Edition to nose dive off the charts while the
"Best Of" without the b-side disk to hold steady.
Most likely, this "Best Of" without the b-side disk will float
around in the U.S. top 50 for a while. As Christmas nears, I
foresee it not only rising even higher on the U.S charts but
outselling "POP" in the U.S. ("POP", according to SoundScan,
only sold 1.4 million copies in the U.S. It sold about 6 million
globally.).
Ciao,
John
