A lot of people on Wire have asked me to do a lot of programming and design
stuff for them. I don't have the time to finish these projects, so since I was
making screensavers, fonts, cgi scripts, remastering concerts etc... at no
cost, I'm going to scratch all uncompleted projects from my obligations. As
far as I'm concerned my only obligation with the people of Wire is the CDR
Ring.
I really need to get away from Wire, its either getting worst, or I'm becoming
less tolerable of people. One person makes a very stupid remark about someone
not knowing what song October is on, and then 10 or so people feel the need to
post to Wire to point out the obvious of how stupid that post was. Then
there's all the GH bickering. The album was made for people like my brother
and some of my friends. They like a lot of U2 songs, but not enough to go out
and buy every album for one or two songs on each. Why do people feel the need
to complain? If you want to hear "40" listen to War, if you want to hear
Gloria, then go listen to October. Do you really think that people care about
all your little pointless complaints? Some of you expect U2 to satisfy you
with every thing that they do... there's just to many egos that I don't want
to deal with for a while.
And then there's all the cdr business. Someone posted today that cdrs only
cost $1. Those are the cdrs that, if used for audio, are pretty much worthless
(most, but not all) if you want quality. For data they will be fine. I buy in
bulk 500 generic cdrs at .55 a cd. I burn a lot of data cds, but I'd never use
these for audio. For any cdrs, you shouldn't spend more than $2 for a cd.
Prices are coming down even more, so soon you should spend more than $1.50 for
Kodak or Mitsui. (rebates don't count, because often places like CompUSA,
getting the rebate is another story) I see people say stuff like "I use the
absolute best cd recorder" If they were to tell me what model they are using I
could tell you things that are wrong with using that drive. Then you have
someone else saying "I use Kodak which is the best for audio." Kodak media is
one of the best, but it's not the best. (it varies) Another misconception is
that cdrs don't last as long. While it is true that cdr's are less tolerant to
temperature extremes and so forth, all the aging tests show that cdrs
(longevity differs by brand) are expected to last in many cases 2-5x longer.
Of course you'll have to wait 20-100 years to find out the absolute truth. In
addition it IS possible to produce perfect copies of cdrs. I have the data and
the facts to back it up. A few of us will be putting together something and
will send it to the McFadden cdr faq that will explain this within the next
couple of months, we're just waiting for a few more confirmations on our info
from other groups. THESE ARE FACTS NOT OPINIONS, so I hope not to see a reply
from Okorn saying "this just isn't so..." and then a bunch stuff on headroom,
ambiance etc (if you want more ambiance, record some and mix it in, I do this
all the time, it works perfectly) This is true for most people with cdr
drives because they don't understand everything, but "perfection" can be
achieved. What many fail to understand that perfect copies can sound
different. This is not just true with cdrs, but with pressed cds as well. I
can point out differences between two so called "original copies." 99% of
people with cdr drives, and I'm being generous, don't really understand making
audio cdrs. I wish people would take the time and learn how to configure their
systems, get better software, and hardware (the problem is mostly hardware not
software unlike what is said in FLOM), but most won't, because they don't want
to take the time or money. They will just lie to you and say give me $10+ for
a cdr.
I will most likely be back in action in a month or so. Maybe I'll pick up
where I left off with any projects, if people still want them done. Hopefully
by then, a lot of you will realize how childish and self-centered you are. I
know that the majority of the people on Wire are not this way, but the
majority of the people who send messages to Wire are...
One last thing, I found an extra copy of "Riverboat President" laying around
(I think that's the name) so if anyone wants to claim it you can have it at no
cost.
one last thing, if anyone has any questions about cdr, programming etc, I'll
be glad to answer questions, but I won't do the work for you anymore, and
it'll probably take about a week before I get back to you.
