I do not know Patty and have no opinion of whether she is good or evil
...but I have been on Wire for several years and have seen the topic
come back again and again and it gets as old as "Are U2 still
Christians?" I do not think the other subcribers to Wire are are so much
jealous as they are tired of it. Patty may not mean to come across as
bragging but that's how many people see it...and bragging..even if it's
about a subject we are all interested in gets old after a while and we
reach the point where we no longer hear it..no matter how impressed we
were in the begining and when people respond to that I think (notice I
said I think) Patti mistakes it for jealousy...which would be easy thing
to do.

I have friends on the R.E.M. lists who live in Athens and are friends of
the band. One of them lived next door to Mike Mills for a while and
they post to the list with regularity but they never never brag...they
relate cute stories of seeing Mills at a locale bar or seeing Michael
Stipe riding his bike down the street and the list owner often goes to
the band's office to find out the truth of rumours that seem to run
rampant on the internet...and for some reason no one on those lists
appears to be jealous..in fact they thank them for relating these things
because it helps remind us that these guys are really on human after
all. These Athenians are also careful not to tell us too much...after
all they do want to keep these friendships that are after all..real
friendships...and we respect that. We realize we have a special
'commidity' that a lot of other fan lists wish they had...actual real
life contact with the people we are posting about...
So I think it's the presentation of the facts...not the facts themselves
that are turning people off..but that is just my take on things..don't
mean to make anyone angry
