1. Island Records "forced" U2 into doing it because of the dismal sales of
POP....maybe :)
2. Polygram is owned by a new company, Seagrams...not sure if the deal has
gone through....this may have something to do with it....just guessing.
3. U2 doesn't want to be known as just a dance band. You will not believe
how many people think that U2 is a dance band...blows my mind. Maybe by
releasing the older songs U2 is trying to make up for this.
I also have a rant for those people who dislike pop...Get over it. It is a
great album. (Of course,
people are entitled to opinions...but I am talking about DEVOTED u2 fans)
Sure it is techno flavoured, but Bono's lyrics are as good as ever. Songs
like please, gone,
staring at the sun, Mofo, if you wear that velvet dress (crap, i would have
to name all of them :))
are ingenious. I also find it amazing that U2 are such masters at getting
the music to match the mood of
the song...The Edge makes the guitar sing....it isn't just Bono
singing....it is a duet :)
I am of the opinion that Bono's lyrics are getting smarter and more subtle
with time. Achtung Baby,
in my opinion, is an absolute masterpiece of poetry. Songs like "Until the
End of the World" are lyrically
amazing. And "Lemon", from Zooropa....well, that song almost gives me goose
bumps when I concentrate
on the lyrics.
However, I still immensely enjoy the older music. It is just a different
style. U2 likes to change their style
from album to album....I am one of those fans who enjoys the changes
instead of whining about it. I am
sure there are lots of you like me, otherwise you wouldn't be reading wire :)
I guess you have assumed that I will be buying the GHs album. Damn right.
Why? It is simple... I can't get
enough of U2 :) Sure, I have most of the songs on CD already. However, I
think it will be interesting to
slip in the GHs CD and listen to it from start to finish. Can you imagine
the range of emotions?
In my opinion it will be a new experience.
