I am sincerely sorry that you were offended by my reply to your post.
However, I must point out that it is a little disingenuous of you to
sniffle about hurt feelings when you opened your post w/the announcement:
"Well, it's been a long time since I started a good flame war on Wire."
You knew very well that the words you were using would be inflammatory &
yet that's how you chose to express yourself.
In addition, you will notice that although I may use sarcasm and humor (I
hope) to counter some of your arguments, I have not found it necessary to
call anyone names, make vulgar sexual comments, or tell anyone to fuck off.
Maturity Abe...ever heard of it?
>No seriously - A Hard Core fan probably plasters his walls with U2 posters
has
>everything theyve ever done on VHS , has over 70 U2 CD's , wakes up to them ,
>sleeps to them, anticipates everything new they still can do , lives and
>breathes the meaning of the band and their messages and still has a
>girlfriend. And a job. Unlike you. Hippie.
Then I'm not a hard core fan. THANK GOD. And I find it rather amusing
that you call me a hippie & tell me to get a job in the same breath that
you criticize U2 for *having* a job, supporting their families, & <<gasp>>
making money. Sit down Abe the room is spinning.
>What is 50 more million to U2 ? They made 300 million on
>tour and are millionaires many times over. What do they care about money when
>it comes to their integrity ???
Since when are "artistic integrity" and good business acumen mutually
exclusive? And who gave you the right to tell U2 that they've made
"enough" money now? It must be very liberating to be able to live your
life unfettered by the demands of LOGIC.
>You missed the point. I was distressing over the fact that the band was
>DEAD...literally. I am fearful of the time that U2 reaches that
>point...aren't you? How sad that the Beatles fans will never have anything
>NEW or creative from their favorite band...
Because John Lennon is dead, right I heard about that. The band is dead
because one of its primary creative forces is literally dead. Got it. But
the music is not dead. And anyhow just how does this apply to U2? They're
all still literally alive (well, Larry may well be pickled or something,
seeing as he doesn't age, but you know what I mean). It's just a Greatest
Hits album, don't make it into a funeral march.
>I saw the [Beatles] Anthology
>for what it was - A grasp at the past - also a lot of unfinished, not
>releasable music. Sure it has historical value and its funny, but its not
>music, just the creation of it.
This is a very fine distinction Abe. "not music, just the creation of it."
So, how do you define music? Is it not music until *you* personally have
listened to it? Until it's officially released by a record company? Until
some guy with a weird name has worked his "producer's" magic on it? This
will keep me up nights.
Abe, you obviously care a great deal about U2, but please don't forget that
there are others out here who care just as much, even if we are not as
"hard core" as you, & we have just as much a right to defend them as you
have to trash them.
Statch
