Well, if this is true, I will be first in line at the store.
And if it's a 2-cd package, I'll be lurking around,
waiting on the doors opening. (lurk. lurk.)

Face it, People: the folks who read Wire are Fruitcakes--
Yes, I mean YOU. And YOU. And YOU!
And me, too, I guess. Although by the looks of things
lately I have a fair bit less fruit in my cake than most. :o)

U2 is my favorite group. When Pop came out I saw it on
the shelf, picked it up, paid and took it home with no hesitation.
It turned out to be less than my favorite album. But I bought
the singles for the b-sides and remixes. And I was happy. When
the next album is released, I will buy it. I know I will. No doubt
about it. And I'll buy the one after that. And God willing, the one
after that. There is no other group that would make me do that.
Somehow or other, I connected with these fellas, not some others.

But most people do not feel that way. Most people feel about
U2 the way I feel about other groups--their albums each have
3 or 4 good songs and 7 or 8 bits of styrofoam filler. These folks
do not want to spend a lot of money on albums because of that
darned filler.

Case in point. I listen to local country stations. I llike songs with
little love stories, so I listen to a fair amount of country. (gasp)
I liked a number of songs by a certain lady singer, so I bought an
album. The album contained three songs that I am willing to listen to.
They were the singles. The rest of the album sucked swampwater.
But I will buy her gh. I know it won't include her hideous songs.

And this is why many people would enjoy a U2 greatest hits album.
All the nutrients with none of the fat and cholesterol.
Sure, YOU think everything they do is wonderful. YOU think all their
work is nutritious and very filling. But most people don't. Most people
have a different performer for their main course, with just a little
U2 salad on the side. Most people would really enjoy a greatest hits
album. And I hope they get it.
I know from experience that it is frustrating having to wade through
what you percieve as crap, in order to find the treasures.
I hope they get a GH album filled with treasures.
I hope it helps more people to enjoy U2.
I hope some of these people will buy the next 'new' U2 album.
I hope all the folks at Polygram make out like bandits.
And I hope U2 makes so much money they shit $1000 bills for the
rest of their lives.
They've earned it.
