Hi Amanda --

It's called Castle Moydrum and it's in the heart of Ireland, not far from a
town called Athlone. It's a good 90-minutes, maybe 2 hours, west of Dublin.

It is still standing, although (as every local in and around Athlone who
helped me find it was quick to mention) "it's a ruins, y'know." The thing
that shocked me most about the castle is that it's located in a fairly
populated rural setting. It's not a city by any means, but there's another
home across the road and another one adjacent to the castle (to the rear of
where the picture was taken from). I always assumed this castle sat out in
the middle of nowhere on some palatially huge property, but it doesn't.

More information about the castle (and a couple dozen other U2-related
sites in Ireland):

BTW, the castle in the smaller picture on the back of the UF album is not
the same castle. This one is near Limerick, I'm told, and is called
Carrigogunnel Castle.

Hope that helps,
Matt
