Upcoming Ireland Trip--Accommodation Hints, anyone?

I'm heading back to Ireland next month, where I hope to perfect my 30-stop U2
pilgrimage--Windmill Lane jumbo sharpie included, Killiney Bay baptizing
optional.

Anyway, my question regards accommodations. Last time I went I stayed only in
Dublin and, while there, in a hotel. This time I'll be in Dublin a week and
then in Galway (and possibly Cork) for a few days each. For those of you who
have gone, would you recommend hostels or B&Bs over hotels? I'll be going
alone, and I was just thinking that perhaps these might be more convivial
atmospheres. Any thoughts? Private email is great and any/all pointers are
