impeachment: a Pandora's box!!
I suppose we shouldn't have started this stuff but now all of the demons
are out of the box, because this is a very emotional issue. Why should
we celebrate impeachment? Are you kidding? Even the Republicans aren't
exactly uncorking champagne bottles. Impeachment is supposed to be used
for two crimes: treason and bribery. "High crimes and misdemeanors" is a
grey area. Clinton lied about an extramarital affair, not about matters
of state. The logical thing would have been a censure, which is a
punitive measure as well. Two prominent Republicans, Bob Dole and Gerald
Ford, suggested this. Clinton could have been tried by a court after he
left office, and not by the Senate. Now we're in for a whole shew of
political turmoil that is going to ensue for perhaps as long as a year
. The country is divided, and this is *not* cool, to put it mildly.
Personally, I'm so disgusted with of all of this that I refuse to watch
the news. I was asked why I was upset; there's your answer.
