I have been listening to the Salome:Axtung Beibi Outtakes for quite some
time. I've had the original CD set for a number of years (Not CD-R).
I've noticed on Disc 2 there's a song dubbed as, "Take Today" by the
individual who compiled the Salome Liner notes. Well, after listening to
the song many times...I have come to a conclusion on what it could have
evolved into on the actual record. My theory is that "Take Today" is an
early version or demo for "ONE." Although, I am aware that ONE came in
an instant during a jam session and was from an early Eno blueprint in
Berlin. Yet, I believe that "Take Today" is also from the Hansa sessions
and is ONE...evident in Adam's bass parts on the song which is very
similar if listened to closely. Plus, the organ parts played by Eno or
Lanois are also similar in sound structure to the actual song. Bono even
sings, "ha____ha___ha a ha" in the middle of "Take Today," which later
appeared at the conclusion of ONE.
Originally, I thought "Take Today" was probably a song recorded during
the Memphis sessions in Sun Studios. The song could have been leftover
on the analog tape reels that were stolen and also happened to be used
for the Salome track recordings. Plus, the harmonica that Bono uses on
the song and the horns, reminded me of the recording sessions at Sun
Studios. Now, I realize the sounding horns are actually coming from the
sound of the organ...
Just say YES,
Alfred
