The width of a CD, and the Best Of disc...

Ya know, I have a few CD's whose total time's are well over 70 minutes. The
best of disc is 65 something, so why do you think they edited some of the
tracks if they could have squeezed a few more minutes onto the CD, and
therefore not have had to edit them? Is there some other reason I'm missing,
such as an aesthetic one, perhaps? Can somebody illumine me on this one? I'm
rather befuddled.
