The faboo Mike Conway (toy says hi) mentioned Jack Lukeman yesterday,
and I'm here to reel you all in. It's my purpose in life to help make
this boy famous. :-)
Jack Lukeman is an incredible singer from Ireland. I met him this past
summer when he played the Guinness Fleadh in New York, along with
Patrick McCabe, author of The Butcher Boy. Jack's show is very cabaret
and very fun. (For stage presence, think Gavin Friday.) He's got a HUGE,
brilliant voice that's often compared to Frank Sinatra. Really, he looks
and sounds like he just stepped out of a 1940s stage band. For a
25-year-old, it's amazing to hear how he sounds now.
Jack and his band, The Black Romantics, will be in New York this
weekend. Actually, they're there right now, and they're doing shows from
tonight through next Wednesday. Do yourself a favor, and if you're in
the New York area, come to one of the shows this weekend! A whole pile
of us U2 types will be there Friday and Saturday for sure, and probably
the other nights as well.
For tour details, and to hear songs and see video (which will hook you
COMPLETELY), go to http://www.jacklukeman.com
Oh, U2 content? Hmm...Well, Jack sat next to Bono and Adam at last
year's Hot Press Awards and has some funny stories to tell about the
night. How's that?
PSA over.
D.
