Just how safe IS EBAY???

I checked out ebay's site for the first time yesterday, and saw lots
of cool U2 stuff that I'd really like to bid on! Except...I'm kind of
nervous about actually buying stuff from people on there. Just how
"safe" is ebay??? And, in order for me to register, I'd have to give
VISA or Mastercard info, which I'm also kind of nervous about
doing--because my email accounts are through yahoo and hotmail. Does
this sound Ok to do?? Or would it be a bad idea?

So, I'm just wondering what other people think about ebay. Is it
really "safe" or legit??? What do you think???

I'd appreciate your opinions on this!
