Well, this isn't a rare occurence. Obscure bands or those who are
still trying to make a name for themselves love doing cover songs, but
they choose the b-sides or non-hit songs so that the public perception
will be that it was their own original work. Boyzone wanted to do
Sweetest Thing themselves (which was a b-side then) until U2 decided
to make it their single so Boyzone didn't push through with it. "Rain"
is actually a Beatles b-side which U2 performs in rainy concerts and
Happiness Is A Warm Gun wasn't exactly the top radio song in the
Beatles time. It is really no surprise to see the Rolling Stones do a
remake of U2's bside, "Paint It Black." It was a good choice though
because U2 never performed it live so the song hasn't really caught on
yet.
