I'm sure iudeas have been transferred through Eno, and I'm sure each band
has learned from the other. The Stones "steal" from other bands (and other
genres) all the time, but they make great music. Steal away! Its beauty
and excitement they're trying to create, not originality - except to the
degree that originality is meant to excite and awe. personally i think
that James have been more experimental this decade, than U2 - but in the
end, less successful at creating lasting songs. Not that they're not
great.
I just think U2 have either overproduced (Pop, Achtung Baby)) or
underproduced (Zooropa) this decade. They need a happy medium.
