Sharon has accurately pointed out that my posts have been "wayward"
recently (and you may have sensed that yet another pun on my last name
in my 32 years on this planet is as about as welcome as the impeachment
vote and the bombing of Iraq, i.e., not very). I was thinking about why
I was doing this and I immediately came up with an explanation.
Major "Hawkeye" Pierce (played by Alan Alda) in the TV show M*A*S*H
was once asked why he always joked around. He said, "Laughing is the
only thing that keeps me from screaming." (or words to that effect). My
asking about aspects of Australian culture was an attempt to introduce
some sorely needed levity into this list and into my life (if you'll
pardon the appearance of melodrama). Also, I was genuinely curious about
all things Australian. So, why not ask these questions to Australians
who like U2? After all, I'll know they have some taste and discretion if
they like our group! ;)
So, I apologize to those who think every post ought to be about U2.
(No, Sharon, I'm not upset at you, in case you were wondering. I know
you were joking.) If you look at my previous posts over the past few
weeks, you'll find a lot of U2-content. I just needed some laughter in
calendar year 1998. There hasn't been a lot in America recently, except
laughter of derision.
U2 Content: U2 rules! :)

P.S. How come I can't see the name "Canberra" without thinking of
little red fruits which grow in bogs? (I am either going to get royally
flamed or wholeheartedly congratulated for that question! ;)
