Wow. It has been a year. It doesn't feel like it. My life changed forever on
the way I feel about U2's music after that weekend, and the way I feel about
the fans as well.
U2 has always had a special place in my heart, but after Seattle, they took
another piece. But the biggest piece of my heart goes to the fans. I am going
to try and put this into words....so bare with me.
It took one weekend. Just one.
All I ever wanted to do was say thank you to the guys for the music. That's
it. Never wanted to mob them, hunt them down for an addy.. etc. I appreciate
the music for what it is, and their ability to perform it. Most of you know
the story - I screamed "We love you Bono!" before ISHFWILF...and he turned
around, looked directly at me and said, "I love you to." I then tossed my
Santa hat to him, and he put it on, and said "And the Lord to me to humble
yourself Bono..." It was surreal. I then motioned to him with my arm, and
mouthed - "Thank You for everything..." - and he smiled. That was all I
needed. I was at peace. Now it's a damn Christmas card. (just picking)
The coolest thing about the whole Seattle experience wasn't just U2. It was
the fans I met in person for the first time. I have made lifelong friendships
with people who I just happened to meet on a mailing list. That's surreal.
There were five of us in our hotel room. Dan "Light a match" Eliot, Matt "I
hope my wife does not give birth during Please" McGee, Ken "Faaantastic"
Rosenberg, Mike "Janky ass crackho" Reiter, and myself, the original "Sweet
BaadAss." <--- that got old after hearing it 20,000 times that weekend. Just
picking. If you could have only heard the conversations going on at 300am in
the morning. I thought Ken Rosenberg was going to hurl, it was so funny.
Touche', outstanding, and Faantastic. You guys helped make that weekend the
best of my life. Let's do it again, crackhoez.
The time spent after the concert with all the people watching movies in our
room was just as fun! From Darci tossing pillows (Where are you gal?), to
Angie Inboden threatining to kill me if I tossed another pillow at her, to
group pics, to the Crocodile Cafe', it was all heaven to me.
I know have a group of friends who I consider close friends, and some as just
nutty sisters that I never had. :) It's not just about the music, and not
just a musical journey (ha!), it's a journey. And the people who you meet
along the way make it all the more special. You know who you are. And if I
met you in Seattle, just let me tell you that I have a huge smile on my face
thinking about you. It's too long to type. You all rock.
The highlight of the night for me looking back was "One". I never cried at a
U2 song, but it was a cleansing moment for me. It was beautiful.

Yes, most of us are on new mailing lists, but I will always be a part of WIRE,
because it's a part of me. Happy Holidays to you all.
