Anyway, J, you are perfectly right to your own interpretations of
different songs, but (if you weren't joking; I don't think you
were) some of them were ridiculous, narrow-minded, conceited.
Ending your post with something to the effect of "Bono's a
cokehead, deal with it, who cares" (that wasn't meant to be a
verbatim quote, either) was completely silly. YOU don't know what
Bono is. I don't think any of us do.
I think the reason I was so effected by your post is that, as
someone else on the list said (I'm sorry; I've forgotten who), I
hold U2 to a higher moral standard. I've loved the band since I
was young and have always been inspired by their spiritualty, and,
parallel to that, their craziness, spontanaeity, their willingness
to go against society, Christian standards (not that Christianity
is a bad thing, though I do disagree with whoever it was that took
it upon herself to give testimony on Wire. How do you know all of
us want to be saved/ need to look to the Bible, anyway? It's
personal; keep it that way), etc. I love a rebel with a good heart
and soul, I guess, and I think that's what Bono, etc. are.
I guess I don't know for sure that Bono isn't an addict. But I
believe that he isn't and felt J's comments were far enough out of
line to say something. Hmph.
Callie
P.S. and as far as the oral sex thing...it could be a line that
exists on multiple levels. Love, sex, oral sex, etc. I think the
oral sex argument is just as valid, considering Flannigan's
statements and Bono's reaction. Everybody who hasn't MUST read
this book. It's a gem.
...i'll see you again when the stars fall from the sky.
