>So comparing the Beatles to U2 is
>ridiculous. U2's music is FAR, FAR deeper than the Beatles could ever
>hope to be, IMHO. Lyrically, IMHO, Lennon and McCarthy have NOTHING on
>Bono.
nah, actually i'd say u2's music is actually just a lot more obviously
"deep", if you know what i mean. what was great about the beatles' lyrics
was they managed to convey complicated, "deep" concepts and ideas through
simple phrasing and subtle metaphor. i mean, wow, listen to norwegian wood,
both the musical construction and the lyrical implications of that song
leave me in awe.
And since neither the good senator nor the blonde playmate (or any of their
relatives) were ever involved in a collaboration with lennon, i'll have to
ask which mccarthy you're referring to
>(now some people may say, 'yeah, he's
>afraid of them cuz he tried them and knows what they do', ok, if thats
>true, and thats a BIG IF.... why the bloody hell would Bono try to get
>his friends of drugs, heroin or otherwise, that just doesnt make
>sense.)
uh, didn't you answer your own question? to quote you, "he's afraid of them
cuz he tried them and knows what they do"
>and although this is a bit abstract to what Bono meant, if you
>listen to the Springhill Disaster Concert in Chicago (1987-88) Bono
>clearly states, "I'm not in the Beatles, this is U2." Now, Bono may be
>giving credit to the Beatles (and I will too, because although i dont
>like their music as much, I will say they had a big impact)
what the. . .?! where did this come from, this had absolutely nothing to do
with the rest of the sentence preceding it. . .wow, even you are usually a
bit more coherent than this. and he was giving them credit, IMO, implying
"no need to be crazy about us, it's not like we're a really great band like
the beatles"
>Thats almost as ridiculous as comparing the Doors with U2
>would be, I mean COME ON!!!!!
>
agh, somebody's gonna get upset over this one. . .
