<gush mode off> Anyway. Yesterday was pretty exciting for me, U2-wise. I
cruised around some of the record shops downtown looking for any old
singles or merchandise I could find, and I was espcially looking for the
"Sweetest Thing" import and "Passengers" (now that I know what it is!)
but didn't find either. I did get a used copy of "Pop" for only 9 bucks
(don't yell at me, I already had it copied on tape and couldn't afford
to get the CD just yet but I have it now which completes my collection
of the studio albums) and I also came across an interesting edition of
the AB CD, supposedly it's one of the very early editions that had a
booklet that folded out or something (I'm not sure, I didn't get to look
at it.) But it looked like a double-CD or something, I would've gotten
that if I'd had the cash. Does anybody know what I'm talking about, and
is it as cool on the inside as it looks?
Didn't find either of the things I was looking for so got another
(non-U2, <gasp>) CD instead and then went over to the mall to get some
clothes. And wouldn't you know it, at the dinky little music stores
there they had the single *and* "Passengers"! Arrgh! I managed to talk
my mom into getting me the single (even if it was $14 for crying out
loud) but have to put "Passengers" on my Christmas list along with the
Popmart vid. Ah well, I also found the single for WGRYWH which is one of
my all-time fav songs and got the Sinatra duet which I have been
listening to over and over. It even talks about Bono in the liner notes
a little, which I thought was cool.
So I downloaded the MP3 player (thanks again to all the fine folks who
wrote) and have been downloading and listening to them. Some are very
high-quality but some of them seem to sound like they were recorded
underwater or something--what's up with that? Also, is there any way to
connect a tape player to my sound board and record them onto cassette
tapes? (I don't think I can afford one of those fancy CDR things just
yet.)
So now that I've got CD's of all the official releases, I'm looking at
bootlegs. Yes, I found the excellent "For Love or Money?" site and have
been poring over it. But my question is, what's an acceptable price to
pay for them? Is it about as much as a normal CD, or a little more, or
does it depend on the rarity of the bootleg? I just don't want to get
ripped off or anything...and on a related note, is there anyone who has
various TV appearances on tape, that they would for some reason be
willing to copy for me? I'm desperately seeking the Simpsons ep, which I
*did* have on tape but recorded over (long depressing story)...but
anything would be nice, and I think it would be really fun to see Bono's
and Larry's appearance on Letterman.
Very excited to see our boys on the VH-1 special the other night! Yeah,
29 is a little lower than *I* would've put them, but I'm just a little
biased ;) Anyway, they were above lots of other influential people, so
it's not that bad. My mom kept teasing me because I would start
hypervenilating just a little (seriously) every time Bono was on, but
hey, I can't help it, he just seems to draw that reaction in me. I don't
think I'm quite ready to see them in concert yet :)
One more thing, and that's it...I know there's a huge glut of pages out
there already, and I know I'm still very much a newbie, but if I put up
a modest little U2 page would you folks visit it? I have that "Into the
Heart" book and there are a few pictures in it I don't think I've seen
anywhere that I could scan, and I have a screen-grab device so I could
get stills from the videos I have...any thoughts?
Profuse apologies for rambling so much. I'm sorry, I just have so much
pent-up U2 commentary and ya'll are really the only ones who will
tolerate it (I hope!) Thanks for reading.
Peace out,
