I havent seen this posted (well, maybe the chart positions, but not the
numbers) yet, so here are the latest sales figures for the US for
everyone who do not have the patience to wait for Ciao Johns summary.
This week TBO&B-sides falls out of the top ten. It could not hold its
position in the week following Super Tuesday, but still sold a
respectable 89.000 copies. In three weeks, this version has sold about
470.000 copies (I believe), so I expect it to pass the gold mark next
week.
The single disk version sold an additional 40.000 copies and rose to #45
(from #57 last week). In total, this version has sold about 69.000
copies and the combined sales is thus about 540.000 units (and the two
disks of the limited edition count as one unit).
At first I thought that the sales were a bit low, until I read about
their sales record and that compilation albums never sell very well
initially. Now I think that the albums are doing a good job in the
charts (and it is still strange that they chart twice).
C ya!
Marty
P.S. Sources: Sonicnet (http://rl.sonicnet.com), Rolling Stone
(http://www.rollingstone.com) and Billboard (http://www.billboard.com).
P.P.S. I just read in Q that Celine Dion has sold one record every 1.2
seconds for the last 30 months. Having done a bit of calculation I guess
U2 sold their records (TBO) at the same speed since it was released,
maybe even faster. Think about that when you have to wait a few seconds.
Time means money!
