+++ Yeah, I can "dig" what you're saying. I'd like to see more sincere
joy and less dark irony, myself. But, it's all up to what's going on in
their lives at this time and what's influencing them. Have you seen my
ridiculous little post on "How I influenced U2" (archive:Nov 20th)?
I guess I should have mentioned that I wrote that spoof because I
actually hope their REAL current life influences, whether they be
people, places, events, or pieces of work, have helped them rediscover
joy, hope and optimism.
In POP, they not only explored new musical territory, but explored
thoughts they hadn't dared to express before like spit-in-their-mouth
synicism and pessimistic frustration at the weaknesses in our societies.
I feel POP is important for this very thing, because they allowed
themselves to do that. And, I'm looking forward to them exploring music
as an expression of other thoughts and ideas, new or just unventured.
However, I do hope they regain and refocus on the lighter and uplifting
themes in life otherwise I'll start to worry. : > Just a hope, not an
expectation. :) Shary
