Hello there everyone! I've been lurking for about a week and a half but
am now compelled to post...so hi...I'm Quinn, I'm female (just to
clarify because the name trips people up) and, well, I'm a fairly newbie
fan, I'd like to say I was with them from earlier but since I was four
when JT came out you can't really blame me. I figured I would just jump
in with this "what song got you hooked" thread, though. Hmmm. I had
heard, y'know, most of the singles from War and JT on radio stations
around here and a few things from AB (mainly "One" I think) but nothing
really hit me until last spring, when I just somehow realized what a
great song "New Year's Day" was.

I think the song that *really* got me though would have to be "WOWY"
(something amusing about the fact that the abbreviation for such a dark
song is "wowy") because, well, last summer I sort of had a relationship
going on with someone that was I'll admit pretty emotionally abusive to
me and that song just summed up the essense of it really well. The
ironic thing is the guy this was going on with is the one who recommend
JT to me (I told him I was getting a U2 album and that was his
suggestion.) The first weekend I got it I was so blown away that I must
have listened to it 20 times...but I would always go over track #3 a few
extra times, it helped me assuage the pain somehow. The next time I got
some money together I got "War" and then I found some more pictures and
realized what a babe Bono was :) and, well, I haven't looked back since.
And that's my long-winded and probably very boring story, sorry I don't
have something more exciting!

Allrighty. Warning: stupid newbie questions alert. Like I said I've only
been a fan since last summer but I'm soaking up all the info I can from
websites, but there are just a few things I haven't figured out yet and
ya'll seem like a friendly bunch, so...
1) What does the Latin in "Gloria" translate to? This isn't urgent, just
curious.
2) What exactly is the Passengers album? I know it's some sort of
soundtrack but that's about all I know! <hangs head in shame> Someone
help me please...
3) Do I need to download some sort of program to run MP3's, and if so,
where can I go about getting it? Because when I tried to DL one I just
got a screen of random characters.
4) What's the deal with this (I think) "Save the Yuppies" thing in San
Francisco?
5) Can I find the Popmart video at any normal video store around here or
should I order it from CD Now like a lot of you seem to be doing?

Speaking of videos. I've been binging on them for the past few
days--finally got my hands on R&H ("Yo! Thumb a lift there, Edge!") plus
the Zoo TV and UABRS and AB tapes (still sweating from the 3rd version
of the "One" video...whoa...) and...just...wow! I won't rant on these
too much because you've all seen them I'm sure but, for me, it was
exceptionally exciting, and I've just been on a high from it all. Why is
there usually a tambourine on one of Larry's cymbals, though? I have
weird images of him playing it...

Well, I think I've written more than enough here, and I apologize in
advance. I'm not planning on all of my messages being this long, I just
have a few weeks worth of comments stored up. Looking forward to
conversing with all you lovely U2-lovin' people!
