 hello,

i can remember a longtime childhood friend (who was always wise beyond his
years when it came to music - he was talking about john lennon when we were
about seven) skating around to my house and playing me a tape he had made
of all of his favourite songs of the time (1991). on there in amongst the
big audio dynamite was "one", and that is what made me love U2. i was 11
then. it wasn't until the same friend talked me into going to ZooTV two
years later that i was swept off. i will never forget what it felt like, it
was the first gig i'd ever been to! it was pretty crazy!! 60000 people
packed into the SFS that time. it was a sweltering night that night, and
hey - they got it on tape. i remember bono saying just before the band went
into "one" - "we didn't mean to mix music and politics. we thought it was
our job" and then seeing for the first time live, what is i think the
greatest song ever written. i doubt even bono will ever be able to top it.
sydney popmart - "one", would you like lightning with that? i'll never
forget.
(an added bonus of the song is that larry actually manages a couple of
cool fills, which was unusual for him at the time!)

 elmo.
