I personally am very, very glad U2 aren't the "same" U2 from the 80's, if
they hadn't changed their sound, they would most definatly NOT be around to
entertain us today. One, the music industry would have flushed them out
like every other 80's band that stayed the same. ..two, U2 couldn't stay in
the same place and remain a band. It was getting tedious for them. At the
end of the Joshua Tree tour they would play their set list backward...just
for a change...they felt like a jupbox playing their greatest hits. It
stopped really being fun...it almost felt like a job...shudder,...grin.
Even Adam who just wants to play music admitted that he didn't know if he
could go on if they hadn't changed. And to add my personal opinion, change
is good! Stagnation is death. And it smells terrible...grin.
Oh and just as a warning to all of you, never take any news update Bono
gives seriously...he changes his mind like he changes hair cuts. Remember,
"we will never do a GH album!!" But then he decided, a few months ago, hey
now it doesn't sound half bad. grin. I am all up for downscaling the next
album and tour, et al, but if the U2 camp really love us they will save a
few video screens...as much as I loved the JT tours and how cute they all
looked on stage, when Bono really had some hair, over half the arena only
saw four cute little elfin sized irishmen.
And before I exit stage left...just gotta say...I loved!! the Popmart
video...alot more personality this time around, honest this is Bono instead
of the Fly or Mr.MacPhisto, or MirrorBall Man. I descend into the realm of
coo fits when Bono sings All I Want is You..."All I want is YOU!!!!!"
awww....its so sweet.
smooches and all that rot,
Birdwell.
