St. Louis Popmart.

I just wanted to express my agreement with the post the other day about
how wonderful the St. Louis show was. Although it was the one and only U2
show I have seen, it really blew me away (despite the shoddy sound
quality...I wouldn't pay sixty bucks for sound like that again, I'm
afraid). Luckily, U2 were able to transcend a half-empty dome. Let's be
honest here, though. Not only is 30,000 a lot of people, but $60.00 is a
lot of money. Other than the Beatles, I wouldn't pay that kind of money
to see anyone. I saw Dylan for under 20, for heaven's sake, and I think
most would agree that Bob is even more significant than our favorite band.
But I don't want to sound ungrateful. The scene was absolutely beautiful
when Bono discussed the challenge of expanding a song to fill a stadium...
and then sand "I Still Haven't Found." I also distinctly remember jumping
up and down when I heard the opening bass line from "New Year's Day", my
favorite War song. Musically, the high points were definitely "Mysterious
Ways" and "Please." They really tore it up on those two, unlike the low
point: "Pride." Why must they play it SO SLOW on stage? Maybe they
should retire it for a few years like "Sunday Bloody Sunday." The show
really was unbelievable. There is something so exciting about a big
stadium show; the arch was shining and the lemon was reflecting, and U2
was laying down one great tune after another. What a night.
