I was well aware JT's release was just around the corner in 87, first
time I heard Streets was on the radio, they played it right after WOWY
which really caught me off guard but I was taping WOWY while playing a
game on the old commodore 64 with one of my friends and then I heard the
eulogy type organ intro and wasn't 100% sure it was still U2 but I
continued taping. It's great to hear a song for the first time RIGHT
when it's released that has so many awesome elements.
The anticpation was heightened by the fact as the flickering guitars
were ringing from the radio it sounded kinda U2'ish so the close
attention as I'm deciphering whether it's definitely U2 added something.

Being in high school back in the spring of '87, I could remember one
person sitting in front of me who was a casual school friend turn around
one day and out of the blue and say something to the effect 'Did you
hear the new U2 album, where the Streets Have No Name is just AWESOME'
and having already heard it I couldn't help but smirk in agreement. A
week or so later, I'm talking to this guy in math class and asking
whether he heard the new U2 album, he was a KISS fanatic and said
something like 'why is everyone talking about this new U2 album, not you
to' and then he goes off on some negative U2 tangent.

As for the Streets vid that August, a local music vid show opened the
show by saying they'd be premiering the Streets vid and has a quick
teaser. VCR-less and late for work, I stuck around to finally see the
vid. Was around 20 minutes late for work, awesome vid.

Rolling Stone mag ran an article a while back with what different songs
meant to people. One guy wrote that in the summer of '87 he would ride
his bike to his girlfriend's house almost every morning with Streets
playing on his walkman. He then mentions that while they eventually
broke up, every time he hears the song he instantly recalls those bike
rides that summer to his girlfriend's house.

While Streets is a great track, Red Hill is in that same class.
Hopefully Island will release the Red Hill vid sooner rather than later,
it's in the can, it was directed by Neil Jordan, the stills look
impressive, what's there to think about.

Nice to see so many people discovering 'Luminous Times' and 'Spanish
Eyes' for the first time. JT would have been that much better with
those 2 tracks.
