 <<...>> Celine Dion's new holiday-themed collection sold a robust 32,500
copies in its second week of release to take the top spot on the SoundScan
Canada album charts this week and keep Alanis Morissette in the runner-up
position.

Sales of Morissette's "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie" took the
traditional second-week dive of most major albums, selling less than half of
its first-week total (30,173 copies, compared to 71,235 in its debut week).

In fact, Morissette came within 1300 copies of conceding the No. 2 spot to
the week's highest new entry, MuchMusic's latest thump-thump compilation,
"Muchdance 1999".

Last week's No. 1, the limited-edition two-CD best-of by U2, slipped to No.
4 on sales of 24,241 copies. However, if you add in sales of the single-CD
version of that album -- which sold another 20,650 copies in its first week
of availability -- U2 would still be at the top of the Canadian charts by a
substantial margin.

Other notable chart movements: George Michael's double-disc career
retrospective, "Ladies & Gentlemen: The Best Of George Michael", sold 8,353
copies, good enough for a No. 10 debut; Canadian rock institution Rush
entered at No. 12 with its triple-CD live album, "Different Stages"; and
hip-hop act 112 zoomed in at No. 15 with "Room 112"; and "In My Life", the
farewell album from Beatles producer George Martin, rocketed from No. 128 to
No. 21 after a CBC-TV airing of a documentary about the making of the
star-studded project.

Taking alarming plunges were Bryan Adams' "On A Day Like Today" (from No. 9
to No. 22), R.E.M.'s now-ironically titled "Up" (12 to 33), and the Oasis
B-side compilation "Masterplan" (11 to 55).

South of the border, meanwhile, Morissette fought off a challenge by
platinum hip-hopper R. Kelly. Morissette held onto the No. 1 spot on the
SoundScan U.S. album charts for the second straight week, with sales of
268,112 copies (compared to an opening-week salvo of 469,054). Kelly's
ambitious double-album, "R", had to settle for a No. 2 debut, on sales of
215,804 copies.

Also debuting in the U.S. Top 10 was "Home For Christmas" by teen act N
Sync.
