So last night I was fighting off exhaustion and fell into bed around 2 AM.
I turned on the TV and set the sleep timer on it (noise is the only thing
that helps me get to sleep), and turned briefly to MTV. I was
disappointed to see that the idiotic show "Sifl and Olly" (a show
consisting of sock puppets, if you didn't know) was on, and they were just
starting a segment called Rock Facts. The question they posed was, "What
did U2 use instead of electricity to power the recording of their albums?"
They came back with the answer, "Potatoes", and then said they were lying.
Humorous, I thought, if not a little idiotic.
I had had enough of sock puppets so I turned to VH1, where they were
airing a marathon of 80s Pop-Up Videos. I was just about to turn over and
close my eyes when I heard something about apartheid... The video was by
Artists United Against Apartheid and it was called "Ain't Gonna Play Sun
City" or something like that. It was interesting, I'll say that much. I
held my breath till the end, when Bono came on in all his mulleted blonde
glory and sang. Anyway.. I had never heard the song or seen the video, so
it gave new meaning to, "This song was written in a hotel room in New York
City, right about the time a friend of ours Little Steven was putting
together a record of Artists! Against! Apartheid!"
Dream out loud,
amanda
