Ok, it's been two weeks since my last big post. This one is a little
long so skip if you want...
I saw a post saying that U2 albums are coming out too far apart. I beg
to differ. This is the only reason why the quality is so good: they
actually take time to make decent music. I don't think any of those
release-every-8-months bands could compete. Quality over Quantity...
besides, there are always more singles and bootlegs to collect :)
Next... The most underrated bands?
Here in southern Ontario, most people know the names "Sloan" and "Treble
Charger"... but I'm not sure about the rest of the world. Listen to
Sloan's "One Chord to Another" and TC's "self=title".
Also, if you don't know who They Might Be Giants are, find out, just for
fun. If you plan to buy their CD's, I suggest you start with Flood and
Apollo 18. TMBG are weird, man, really weird, but fun!
Heh. Which brings me to the most _over_rated band of all time. Alanis
Morissette. Any idea how tired most of us Canadians are of listening to
her? nuff said...
I was in a used-CD store yesterday, looking at some poorly-copied U2
boots which I didn't buy, and found something rather odd. This store
also stocks a few new CD's, and believe it or not, there were still 8 or
so copies of the GH double! I think that's the only store in town that
still has 'em...
I've been reading about various mastering errors on U2 discs. I didn't
notice anything on the GH except for the annoying fadeouts on NYD and
WTSHNN, but I did notice the "skip" in LNOE on Pop the first time I
heard it... and also the nasty clip in Dirty Day on Zooropa when he
sings "need someone to blame? _throw_ a rock in the air..."
I really couldn't care about mastering errors I won't notice unless I
listen really really carefully... some will always slip by no matter how
careful they are... but obvious ones like that really should've been
corrected, even if they were in a rush to release the album.
To finish off: my introduction to U2. It happened in Grade 9, when one
of my friends bought a copy of Zooropa (it had just come out) and played
it for me a few times. I liked it. I didn't know who U2 were, even
though I liked WTSHNN and Mysterious Ways and several others. My friend
showed me a few other U2 albums: Rattle & Hum and Unforgettable Fire...
neither of which really impressed me at first listen... but then he lent
me a copy of Joshua Tree and that did it. Within the next year I bought
all of the albums... the rest is history :)
I finally got onto Wire about 2 months ago, and it rocks. Aside from the
occasional argument, it's good to know that so many U2 fans are friendly
and helpful people. See you next post, likely in a few weeks...

btw - Anyone have a copy of "Treasure" in mp3 format? I got the live
version from Prufrock's page (Thanks!) but still don't have the
original.
