Living in a u2 bliss, dreaming the world I want to live in, and thinking
about where U2 are headed have been on my mind the last few days after
reading wire. I was upset at first about the choose of songs on the
Greatest Hits album. Yeah, I wanted Bad live on the cd and I would have
loved to have the live version of Sunday Bloody Sunday. We all know that
Bono's emotions REALLY come through when he is in concert...and an
audience is listening and cheering him on. But I guess Bono doesn't like
to hear himself talk on an album and so U2 picked the studio version
because they liked it better and thought is was a good demonstration of
their music. I can except that, can you?
I didn't get a chance to listen to the whole interview, but I did hear
U2 talking about the fact that the GH songs picked out in 20 minutes. I
don't think they put a lot of work in to this whole album. I am not
saying they care about it any less, but I think they are concentrating
on the new album. This greatest hits album was for them to show us how
they think "people" (not fans) view U2 in the 80's. If you look at this
way, the album is awesome. I would rather them focus on the material for
the new album anyway.
The new album will be done soon enough and I think it will be their
best to date. So maybe the GH did not meet some of the fans
expectations, but they didn't put it out for the die-hard fans. That was
what the B-sides were for. I am sure that U2 members are well aware that
the die-hard fans know their music to date forward, backward, sideways,
and whatever other way there is to know.
