You are right about the fact that the original ST had more soul and Bono's voice contained more passion. The original 'Sweetest Thing' was indeed a deeply passionate lovesong. However, its Bono's song and he has the write to reinvent it. And I for one think think they've done a brilliant job in transforming the ST into a classic pop lovesong with wonderful new chords and 'do do dos'. Which is the main reason why they've attracted so many non-fans to buy the single (and there's nothing wrong with that). Anyway I just think the new ST is just as good as the old...but that's just my view.
