This is my first post to Wire - in fact I just started reading the list
a while ago, and it's great! Incredible how most U2 fans are really nice
people...
Ok The first thing is the ST single. I picked up both discs here.
There's some confusion about which is Part 1 and Part 2. As they were
labelled in the music store where I got them, the disc whose number ends
with 464-2 is Part 1, and 466-2 is Part 2. However, CD Plus has it the
other way around. Anyone know the _real_ answer? :) ... I also find the
cover a little odd; I sort of expected something on the same theme as
the video, but someone (whose name I saw in a previous posting, but
can't remember) wearing a gas mask?
Speaking of cover art, I picked up some u2 vinyls this week, and now I
can agree with you all about the Joshua Tree cover. Did they ever
mutilate it for the CD or what.
Btw, Two of the vinyls I found were somewhat interesting. I have the 12"
Unforgettable Fire single (with a tiny scratch, oh well) and the 12"
Fire single. Cool eh?
Which brings me to another point. I've seen the scans of the GH cover,
but nowhere have I seen a listing of the contents of the B-sides CD.
Anyone?
I guess we'll find out on Nov. 3rd. Btw, our local radio station 102.1
The Edge (Toronto) is doing a 2-hour interview / album preview on Nov.
10th. I think they said 10:00pm, so anyone in the area make sure you
listen!
Last year I taped the Sarajevo concert off the radio, and I'm kicking
myself for not using a better tape or my computer... it's actually my
favourite popmart footage so far. If anyone has a really good copy of
that concert, please e-mail me.
Also if anyone has a Melon cd that they are trying to sell (I know, not
likely) then please e-mail me.
Finally, something about Elvis Ate America:
I think it's pretty cool too. (Actually, I really like _most_ of the
disc.) Go read your liner notes, and then read this little quote from a
book I have ("Into the Heart" by Niall Stokes, p.138):
"For the sleeve notes, Brian Eno conceived of an imaginary lost
four-minute work, done on Super-8 by Jeff Koons when he was a teenager,
entitled Elvis Ate America. He contacted Koons, who agreed to go along
with the subterfuge."
Interesting... b.s. in the liner notes on a u2 album. (Hey, at least it
was cool b.s.) :)
Oh, my two cents on top albums of the 90s? Hmm. All the applicable U2
albums would make my list of course. Other faves?
Smashing Pumpkins: Siamese Dream
treble charger: self=title
Foo Fighters: The Colour and the Shape
Of course there's lots of other stuff I like, but a lot doesn't quite
qualify as 90's (er, like Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon.)
Well, that's my share of mindless rambling for the week... ttyl
Graham
btw - I wonder how many errors there are in the lyric sheets in the Pop
CD... found one tonight near the end of LNOE
