Fellow Wire readers,

Since all of you have been responding to my posts (pro and con, and
I'm grateful for both), I have broken down and made my list:

10) Soundgarden - Superunknown
9) NIN - The Downward Spiral
8) Radiohead - OK Computer
7) U2 - Zooropa
6) Depeche Mode - Violator
5) The Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie...etc.
4) NIN - Pretty Hate Machine
3) U2 - POP
2) (The London) Suede - Dog Man Star (*see below*)
1) Achtung Baby - U2

I starred Suede (because of legal reasons, they're un-euphoniously
called "The London Suede" in America) because they put out an album last
year called "Sci-Fi Lullabies" (which gets an "Honorable Mention" for
this Top 10 list). Anyway, this is an excellent 2CD collection of their
b-sides, and frankly its as least as good as their other albums, if not
better in some ways (sound familiar?). IMHO, they are the best British
band working these days. Their first two albums ("Suede" and "Dog Man
Star") featured an excellent, *Irish* guitarist named Bernard Butler
(now a moderately successful solo artist). The reason I mention these
two bands in the same breath (i.e., U2 and Suede) is that these are the
only two bands that make me feel like I want to own everything they've
ever done. Not all of you would like them, but some of you definitely
would. If you feel adventurous, give them a listen. U2 still is #1, of
course!
