U2 back Irish Amnesty
campaign
U2 at Sellafield: Now they are backing Amnesty
International
U2 have launched a massive human rights campaign for
Amnesty International in Ireland.
Bono, the Edge and Adam Clayton were the first to put
their names to a drive by the organisation aimed at
collecting a million signatures in Ireland supporting
human rights.
"You can make a gigantic difference in the life of a
prisoner of conscience somewhere else in the world by
simply writing a postcard," Bono said.
The group are frequent supporters of political causes.
Earlier this year they backed the Northern Ireland peace
process by appearing on stage alongside David Trimble
and John Hume.
In 1992 they appeared at Sellafield nuclear power station
to support Greenpeace's campaign against the station.
