But watching this argument go on between Patty and Ann reminded me of
something Bono said. It's in "U2 Faraway, So Close" by B.P. Fallon about a
third of the way through the book under the heading 'It's a bad day for
Bono', in case anybody out there wants to check. This is what it says:

Edge's arm is squeezing Bono and suddenly the singer's head slumps forward
and he gazes down at the floor. "I'm sorry" he says "I'm getting confused.
I don't like this sort of new fan. There uses to be a time when there were
more fans crashing on the floor of our rooms than standing outside the

I've lost a jacket here. These kind of rich girls, they've got *nothing* to
do with *rock'n'roll*. This is *celebrity*. It's getting harder and harder
to meet the people who actually *listen* to the records."

Now, Patty, I do not know you. Nor do I know Ann or khufu or Nico (and I
got the joke Nico in your original post Nico, it was cute and I do enjoy
your posts on close encounters of the U2 kind). I have never met the band
and I am not at all jealous of anyone who has met them. I just think you
were very lucky and/or very determined. But I think that Bono's words above
should illustrate to all of us that call ourselves U2's fans that we must
not forget that they are thinking, feeling *real* people and that the fan
hullabaloo that goes on around them does become a strain for them at times.
IT'S VERY SIMPLE It is just a matter of *respect*. U2 has always shown
such respect for us, their fans. It is a shame that not all of their fans
show the same respect back to them. I'm not saying that Patty or Nico are
in anyway disrespectful to U2. I just saw this as an opportunity to speak
to what has got to be an issue occasionally for the members of U2. If I
ever meet U2, I will be polite and courteous to them (and ask Bono for a
hug and say a heartfelt thank you). In my mind, it's a case of the Golden
Rule we all learned as children....

*sigh* Digging through my closet for the asbestos suit, got a feeling it's
gonna get warm.
