The reason some of you have "Under a blood red sky" CD's that
skip during the Electric Co. is because of an inadvertent slip up by
U2. I have this on CD and vinyl, the vinyl being purchased in 1983
on the day of release, stamped "Special Low Price", as Island
used to issue cheap mini LP's. On the vinyl version, in the middle
of the song, Bono starts singing "Bring on the crowd, I need a
crowd" to the tune of "Send in the clowns". U2 forgot to ask for
permission to use this snippet on a commercial release! The
owners of "Send in the clowns" went nuts and threatened to take
the band to court, at a time when when they couldn't have afforded
a huge bill at the end of a case. They consequently settled out of
court for something like 50,000, and a much chastened U2
realised the importance of asking permission! On subsequent CD
releases, this section of the recording was edited out, and if you
hear, "I need a crowd" following a very obvious cut, it is because of
this. Some versions of the CD kept the full song, listing it as "The
Electric Co.(interpolating "Send in the clowns")", but these seem to
be rarer releases- though I could be wrong. By and large, if you
want to hear the original version, you have to listen to a 1980's vinyl
release - in the UK at any rate.
