Got the Greatest Hits today, and they sure sound remixed to me

Hi again WIRE -

I managed to get my hands on an advanced copy of the GH Cds today. Woohoo!
Here's what I can share with you:

The track listing in Prarit's news page is correct for both the A sides CD
and the B sides CD.

The rumor is true - October is on the same track as All I Want Is You,
after almost a minute of silence.

I don't have a booklet or case with them, and the artwork on the CDs is
minimalist to say the least - not much more than the titles and run times
of the songs, so I can't share scans or anything, sorry.

While I've got a good chunk of an audio degree (and thus am semi-educated
in sound) and know these songs really really well (and thus am throughly
educated in the music) I wasn't involved in the release of these discs, so
I can't say this with any true authority. BUT...

It absolutely, positively sounds to me like most if not all of the tracks
on the A-Sides CD have been remastered. I've listened to all of these
songs anywhere between dozens and hundreds of times on their original CDs
and I would swear they have never sounded this rich, deep or clear. If I
get the chance this weekend, I'll do a side-by-side comparison, playing the
originals and the GH back to back and see if I can confirm it. But for the
first pass through the player, they sure sounds great! If I'm not just ...
um ... hearing things, this is a good piece of news, since it adds a great
deal of value for all of us who are getting exactly ONE new version of a
song out of this deal, and that'll be on a single we can get as an import.

Yesterday someone named either Jason or Ellis posted:

Well, I'm letting you know I know you now know as much as I know now.

Later,
  otto
