OK, after watching this thing for at least a dozen times, I think I have it!

It looks to me as if he says "I tried." right at the end. By the expression
on his face during the last sequence, she hasn't forgiven him for his "sin"
of missing her birthday.

I'm really excited to have figured this out...anyone else agree/disagree?

OK, so I don't have a life right now and spend my off time at work watching
this video, so what? ;-)
