Hi gang --

In addition to what's being reported here, I can tell you that Amnesty is
also planning a similiar event in the US. Don't know if it'll be the same
day - December 10 - or if they'll do it on different days. But this kind of
event is right up U2's alley, obviously. The question boils down to whether
or not they feel like gearing up for another live appearance, and all the
planning, rehearsals, and coordination that goes with such a commitment.

More details soon to be posted on @U2 ... http://www.atu2.com

RADIOHEAD, ALANIS TO PLAY HUGE AMNESTY CONCERT

Details are still a little sketchy, but Amnesty International are staging a
massive concert in Paris, France December 10 that will feature
Radiohead, Alanis Morissette, Peter Gabriel, Tracy Chapman,
Asian Dub Foundation, Kassav and more to be announced. The
event is a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the United Nations'
Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The concert will be at Bercy
Stadium in Paris, and there is also talk of a similar show that might take
place in California that same week (D.A.M.N. is hearing December 6 for
that one). Amnesty are currently drawing attention to the milestone of
the Declaration by circulating a petition worldwide that will eventually be
delivered to governments who still support flagrant violations of human
rights. This petition started its journey around the world in Vancouver,
BC December 12, 1997 when U2 signed it backstage during their
Popmart Tour. You can make your voice heard by signing the petition
as well; it's available online at www.rights.amnesty.org

Pop music and political awareness is still a big business these days, as
the Tibetan Freedom Concerts would attest, but it's really no contest
compared to what was going on in the mid-1980's. Think back to events
like Artists United Against Apartheid, Band Aid, Northern Lights, Red
Wedge and another Amnesty International event called the Conspiracy
Of Hope. More details of the Paris show, and hopefully the American gig
will follow...
