Forgive me if you have already discussed this, but I just read an
article at MTV News (aka Mall Girl News) which said that U2 is in
trouble financially. A source was quoted as saying, they weren't in
grave trouble, "let's just say they have nice houses and that's about
it."
In the wake of this news, Paul McGuinness fired their financial
advisor (the same one that Oasis uses--I hope they end up piss-poor
:)) and hired an American talent lawyer. This attorney was in on the
negotiations over the Greatest Hits CD's. The first one to be
released November 3 in the U.S., and the second one to be released
around Christmas '98/early '99. U2's advance payment for the two
albums will be around $50 million.
It just seems a little too coincidental that U2 finds out that they
are in financial trouble (although I think most of us would like to be
in that kind of "trouble"), and the man they hire to get their
finances back in order is a key figure in GH album negotiations.
I have got no problem with U2 releasing anything they damn well
please, for any reasons, especially a GH which would include that
limited edition 1980's B-sides CD.
By the way, does anybody know of any on-line CD store that is taking
pre-orders on the November 3 limited-edition GH with the B-side CD?
Lovey-dovey,
Spencer
