no Sweetest Thing in NYC / mix it nix it / cross-over play

I imagine (from what you describe) that the radio stations in NYC are
pretty classic rock oriented, and even if a station calls themselves a
modern rock station, they may lean more heavily on crap bands like
Creed and Days of The New to compete with album rock and classic rock
stations. I think this happens in many cities.

But have you called in and requested the song?? Give it a try, it
can't hurt. Believe me, I talked to a friendly DJ here in Madison for
about three days in a row. We not only discussed U2/'sweetest thing'
for a while, but we even talked about how that new Alanis Morrisette
songs sucks so much. Yesterday they finally got the single and
started playing it.

He told me that they put sweetest thing on because of me and several
others who called in and let them know that we REALLY wanted to hear
it!! I thought that was pretty cool.

He said that many times stations just put a song out there on the air
for a week or two to test the waters and see if they get any feedback.
If they get enough interest they play it more, if they don't they
scrap it.

So I think it's in everyone's best interest as fans of the band to let
our stations know that we want to hear this song.

I also think that this could be a really great cross-over song for U2.
This song could fit on pretty much any radio format from rock,
alternative, pop, and even light rock. So if you aren't having any
luck getting the song played on one station, try another.

I think that we have all noticed that the most popular songs out there
are the ones that cross-over to several radio formats. (Dave Mathews,
Alanis, Jewel, Matchbox 20, Shania Twain) I know I just listed off
some of the worst acts in music, but we have to admit their popularity.

what do you guys think?

ps. I was also surprised that U2 beat out Alanis in the mix it or
nix it thing.
