U2:hypocrites?

Hey guys,
i haven't posted anything for a couple of years now but thought it was about
time. I, like everyone else, am looking forward to getting to buy a new u2
cd, even though it won't really contain anything new. However, wasn't it u2,
especially Bono and Edge, who always said that they'd never release a Best
Of Album because they saw it as just a way of making quick money and that
if a band had nothing new to release, then to get out of the business (i'm
paraphrasing here, not a straight quote)? So i'm puzzled to why they have
agreed to this (to tie fans over until a new album is out, a money maker?).

In addition, Paul McGuinness stated in the past (in
Propaganda) that they didn't see the possibility of releasing a B-sides
album because that would de-value the original singles and all the hard work
(and money!!) that fans put in to collect them, and if they did release one,
it would be strictly a one of thing for Propaganda subscribers.

So i dont know what all this hoopla over the greatest hits package (and
b-sides album) is, it's actually disappointing. Don't get me wrong, i'm as
big a U2 fan as the next person, have been since i was 12 (22 now), but I'd
like to hear from U2 themselves on why they have agreed to release not just
one, but possibly 3 Greatest Hits albums....

U2ingly,
Bonnie
