Just thought I'd chip in my bit on the GH shenanigans. What nobody
appears to have mentioned(on the plus side) is the possibility of the
lads doing a tour, to coincide with the release of a compilation, in
1999, which not even the most GH cynic will oppose.
Secondly, while us U2 veterans are familiar with all of their back
catalogue, you can bet your bottom dollar that there are kids out there
13, 15 17, whatever, who will hear a track on the radio, or TV and will
say, hey, I never knew THEY sang that. Maybe I'll check it out. I for
one will not object to increased airplay and media attention. It appears
to me a lot of Wire contributors( with all due respect) have this
elitist attitude seriously out of line with a band that is a WORLD WIDE
phenomenan.ie.
I just have this feeling in my gut that they'll be doing a millenium
show in Dublin 31 December 1999, and I for one want to be there when
they play some of the best songs written(not just this century but of
all time) and if they have to publicise their portfolio on a world stage
via a greatest hits package then so be it. And the bottom line is, if
you feel you're being conned , don't buy it.
Respect to Robbie Robertson, you talk a lot of sense.
