I also think one BIG reason for this release is to keep U2 in the minds
of non-diehards while they are recording. One Reason, in my opinion,
why POP did not sell as well as expected in the U.S. (I know POP sold
very well in Europe) is that U2 were out of the music scene. All
people had were Passengers and HMTMKMKM. These were the only two band
projects between Zooropa and POP. Hence, when POP was released, a lot
of the non-diehards had really forgotten about them as they were being
sucked in by groups like Matchbox 20! This GH compilation puts out a
full U2 release alongside a video and will, in turn, keep U2 in the
midst of the music buzz. Then, when the new album is released, all
people will be talking about is 'the new U2 album!!!!' This is my
humble opinion. Any comments are welcome either on WIRE or to my
personal e-mail. Thanks.
Achtung.
John.
