My question for all the GH "slaggers" is this. Will "Bad" sound any
worse on a GH disc? Will it be any less moving, [add about another 10
postivie adjectives]??? Thats what it comes down to I think.
Its kinda(?!??) selfish of us to want U2 to constantly be slaves to
their die-hard fans. They were given the oppertunity to gain new fans
and serve their more "casual" fans.....kill two birds with one stone.
Theres no way every U2 fan (be they die-hard or casual or even
potential) can be satisfied with every U2 project....and its our turn to
sit back and allow them to do what they have to. Im confident that they
will "return" to service the die-hard fans. I also think that they are
trying to not alienate the die-hards by releasing the B-Sides disc as a
limited edition thing. Think of it as a deposit, a dowry (lol).
I've noticed that the word "integrity" has been thrown about alot in
the last couple of days. Some think they've lost it, some dont. I
persoanlly dont think they have. I mean, Bono hasnt suddenly become like
a fascist, who dumps radioactive junk into the Irish sea or sumthin. Its
just a CD, and in the bargain its music we all LOVE. Theres no denying
that. Sure "Love comes to town" is one of my least fav U2 songs, but on
the music scale....it sure rates higher than 99% of what everyone else
is trying to market.
U2's tours were discussed a little while ago (I mean the most recent
"discussion" lol), and it was said that U2 could not really afford to
put on a tour the likes of Popmart. They also probably wouldnt want to,
because of the cost to the audiences. Ticket prices were high (not that
I minded!), venues werent being sold out (well some were some werent).
Think of what $50 mil. could do for them in that department!!
Then theres Bonos movie. He can sink his $10 mil cut from this venture
into that. He probably will, in part, anyway. The point is that this
could be the beginning of things that we can be "proud" of as U2 fans.
Not that Im going to be cashing in my membership of "U2 fandom", just
over 3 stupid CDs.
I'll admit it. I have done a total 180o turn on this issue. Thats what
putting your emotions aside and actually thinking will do for you I
guess. Then again I think the adrenaline of a U2 release (and hopefully
a midnight sale somewhere in Sydney on nov 2nd!) is starting to break
down the synapses in my brain. lol kidding.
Oh and while Im thinking about it..... voice your opinions in my
Greatest Hits/Best of survey!!

Aint love the sweetest thing?
