Stuff And Nonsense(An Idea)

Hey there. It's been a while since I posted. I don't want to get involved in
the Greatest Hits debate(I have my own strong opinion), but I do have an idea.

If you ask me, the best thing for die-hard U2 fans that can come out of a
Greatest Hits would be the quality. For those who collect their U2 on cd, you
know what I mean. Everything pre-Achtung Baby needs to be remastered. I am
assuming that if a Greatest Hits collection is released, older tracks will be
remastered.

Another thing, the use of the title "Greatest Hits." Don't fool yourself, we
know what Greatest Hits cd's really are; SINGLES COLLECTIONS. It'll be the
same thing if U2 does it. Look at any greatest hits collection you have, that
is basically what they all are. Why isn't "Behind Blue Eyes," a perrenial fan
favorite, on The Who's Greatest Hits(any of the 3, for that matter). "Dear
Prudence," and "Happiness Is A Warm Gun," never found their way onto the
Beatles' 4-cd's worth of "Greatest Hits." "Driven To Tears," never made it
onto the Police's "Classics" collection. We all know what'll be on a
"U2-Greatest Hits" album: "I Will Follow," "Gloria," "New Year's Day,"
POSSIBLY "Sunday Bloody Sunday," "Pride," POSSIBLY "Bad," "With Or Without
You," "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For," "Where The Streets Have No
Name," "Desire," "Angel Of Harlem," and POSSIBLY "When Love COmes To Town" or
"All I Want Is You." If the collection does span into the 90's, the same trend
will continue.

Speaking of remastering(as I was earlier), I think that U2, whether they do it
now or later, should follow the footsteps of the Who eventually. The Who has
remastered every album(and it makes a HUGE difference), and, along with the
remastering, has added anywhere from 3-12 "unreleased tracks" on each one,
some being b-sides, live versions, alternate takes, or never previously-
unreleased songs. I think this is a beautiful idea, and since U2 is one of
the VERY few bands that deserve the same treatment as the Who, I think the
fans deserve the same treatment too. Who wouldn't buy a remastered "The
Joshua Tree" that featured "Sweetest Thing," "Walk To The Water," a live
version of "One Tree Hill," maybe "Womanfish," and possibly a demo of "I Still
Haven't Found What I'm looking For" from when it was still "Under The
Weather"? I personally think this is the best idea/situation. I'd really be
interested in knowing what you guys think. If you don't understand what I
mean, go to your record store and look at the remastered "Who's Next" and "The
Who Sell-Out." Look at the bonus tracks and imagine it being a remastered
"The Unforgettable Fire" with "Bass Trap," "The Three Sunrises," and "Bad(Live
from Live-Aid). Imagine the possibilities!

Well, that appears to be all for now, Wirelings. Oh, I was wondering if some
other people who were at the U2 Convention in Chicago in '96 can e-mail me, I
have a few questions. Thanks. Take care.

Fake as anything,
Matt
